Treating Hair Loss

Treating Hair Loss

Hair loss happens to both men and women and can be caused by a number of factors including anemia, protein deficiency, low vitamin levels, chemotherapy, thyroid disease, and autoimmune conditions. If you are experiencing hair loss, we know that the process can be traumatic as it affects your self-esteem and self-confidence. However, the good news is you can do something about that hair loss with the help of your dermatologists at Southeast Dermatology. With convenient office locations in both Pasadena and Houston, Texas, Southeast Dermatology wants to introduce you to a revolutionary new treatment for hair loss called Platelet Rich Plasma (aka PRP).

Platelet Rich Plasma Treatment Basics

So, what is PRP? Treatment involves taking a blood sample from your arm and putting it into a centrifuge to separate out platelet-rich plasma. This plasma is then injected into sections of your scalp to stimulate hair growth. Platelets work by stimulating stem cells to regenerate hair growth through:

  • Increasing blood circulation to the hair follicle
  • Triggering hair to grow and controlling the growth cycle
  • Increasing hair thickness and decreases hair loss

PRP treatment typically consists of 3 treatments spaced one month apart. Initial treatment is followed by maintenance treatments in our Pasadena office every 3 to 6 months. Results are gradual and may take 6 to 12 months to see, but once they arrive, your regained confidence and self-image will be well worth the wait!
