You've probably seen advertisements for Botox everywhere—on television, in magazines, or even in your email. If you've been considering this proven wrinkle reducing treatment, it's important to educate yourself before scheduling an appointment. Read on to learn some of the basics on Botox, and contact Southeast Dermatology in Pasadena, TX, to undergo treatment!
How does Botox work?
Botox uses a minuscule amount of a protein that temporarily stops the targeted muscles from moving. This allows the skin on top of these muscles to smooth out, creating a natural-looking, younger appearance.
Where can Botox be applied?
Cosmetically, Botox works best for several sites on the face, including the forehead, between the eyebrows, and the outer corners of the eyes (crows feet). Here at our Pasadena office, our dermatologist is skilled in recommending and applying other cosmetic treatments for other signs of aging that you wish to eliminate.
How long does Botox last?
Every patient's response to Botox is different, but on average, you can expect its effects to last between four and six months before having to be reapplied by a dermatologist. One of its perks, however, is that many people notice that the effects of Botox last longer with each subsequent treatment and the skin stays wrinkle-free for longer intervals.
Does Botox hurt?
The needle used to inject the Botox solution is very tiny, and most patients only report slight, if any, discomfort upon injection. The whole process usually only takes a few minutes to complete. Additionally, because this treatment is only minimally invasive, there is no downtime afterward and you can resume regular activities immediately. Some patients do have temporary bruising or facial swelling following their treatment, but these side effects are typically mild.
