Managing Your Acne

Our telehealth services make it easy to consult with our dermatologists from the comfort of your home.

Dealing with acne can be incredibly frustrating, especially if you find that your skin just isn’t responding to any home remedies or over-the-counter acne treatments. Sure, our southeast Houston and Pasadena dermatologists can work with you to create a fully customized treatment plan designed to address the cause and type of acne you’re dealing with, but there are also simple things you can do every day to help keep your acne under control.

Keep your skin clean

One of the best ways to kill acne-causing bacteria is to make sure that you fully remove makeup before bedtime and wash your face twice a day to remove dirt and grime. If you are prone to breakouts, you may want to consider an acne-fighting cleanser that contains salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide. Talk with our southeast Houston skin doctors before using any new acne cleansers or over-the-counter treatments.

Be gentle on your skin

You may think that scrubbing your face and using exfoliating products and tools will actually remove more bacteria and get your skin even cleaner, but unfortunately being rough on your skin will only make your acne symptoms worse. It’s important to be gentle on your face at all times to prevent further redness and irritation.

Eat a healthy, balanced diet

While there is still no link between diet and acne, it is possible that certain foods could make acne worse. In fact, dairy is a known trigger for breakouts. Furthermore, those who consume fewer sugars and simple carbs (e.g. white bread) also deal with fewer breakouts. If you think your diet may be impacting the health of your skin let’s chat about ways to improve it.

Get Professional Treatment Online

Dealing with a nasty breakout? Need a refill on a prescription medication? No problem. We can easily schedule a telemedicine appointment with you.

Right now, we all have to social distance and stay inside as much as possible, but we also know that our patients dealing with psoriasis, rosacea, acne and other chronic conditions may want to check in with us, ask questions or find out if a certain over-the-counter medication or treatment is ideal for them. In these situations, scheduling a telemedicine visit with our dermatologists is the ideal option.

However, if you are dealing with an urgent problem our dermatologist can still provide treatment. If you want to schedule a telemedicine visit to discuss your acne treatment then click on the Telemedicine Appointment Request tab on our website. Call Southeast Dermatology’s Pasadena, TX, office at (282) 991-5944 or the Houston office at (281) 481-0033.
